Champion reported that revenues from the sale of modular homes in the 4th quarter of 2006 were essentially flat. From where I sit, there is no question that the quality issue has had an effect on Champion.
One dealer I spoke with told me that he was adding other manufacturers of modular homes to his business so that his customers would have a better selection of quality product, free of defects. Champion can not achieve a reputation for quality unless they match or exceed the customer's expectation, something Champion has not been able to do so far.
For example, click on the following link to read about several recent complaints about Champion products:
When you consider the small percentage of people that actually take the time to reach out and acknowledge their frustrations, how many defective Champion homes are being built and sold?
Potential modular home buyers are now better informed and their choices are even broader. Unlike Champion, there are now many quality modular home builders that are providing customers with homes free of defects.
If you are Champion home buyer or potential buyer, please take the time to share your experience and post your comments. By doing so, future buyers will be in a better position to make an informed decision about which modular home is best for them.

I have no personal knowledge of Palm Harbor. That said, I have heard that they do stand behind their product and build good homes.
