Along with all the major problems that were so painfully obvious on the initial walk-thru (see 03/31/2007) there were some items that did not seem to attract alot of attention. Items like the double french doors. The holes in the doorsills was never drilled and therefore the pin that you slide down to lock the bottom of the door in place had no hole to slide into. Aside from the obvious safety concerns from an unsecure door, there was the sunlight that shown through between the doors resulting from the improper fit. While it is true that it was not a difficult task to complete the installation, i.e. get a 1/4" metal bit, locate the correct spot for the hole, drill through the doorsill and then suck up the metal shavings, repeat the process since there were two sets of french doors, it is not something we had expected to do when we purchased the Jefferson II from Champion Genesis. It was another example of the lack of supervision and inspection during the building process, a far cry from what you are told to expect with regard to homes built by the Champion Genesis factory trained staff.
Some people, including ourselves, believe that certain items should line up, if only for aesthetic purposes. Certain things can be corrected, however some things cannot, not at least without a great deal of expense. Take for instance, as you approach the front door, you might think that the top of the window adjoining and to the right of the front door would be the same height as the door. Good design would dictate it to be either the same height, taller or shorter, not off by about an inch that clearly calls out MISTAKE! No big deal you say, except you have to look at it every day. Kind of like getting a "little splinter," the kind that are too small to get out with tweezers. No big deal, except as each day goes by, it gets to be a little more irritating. One might argue that it was planned to look this way, shame on the designer The more likely scenario, that it was just poorly built. You look at the pictures and decide for yourself, bad design or poor assembly. Either way, there is no easy fix.
More quality from Champion Genesis...NOT!
