The following is a comment from Bobbie Bell, email address:  bbell@usa.net

I am in the middle of starting litigations against a dealer. My problems have stemmed from an inexperienced dealer more than the craftsmanship of the home. My home is a Dutch by Champion out of the Lagrange plant. Feel free to contact me if I could be of any help or if you would like me to send you a document that outlines my experience. Champion has been willing to admit that the dealer I used was inexperienced and treated me very badly and has been helpful in trying to get the dealer to do the right things, just not very successfully.

Bobbie, is the dealer still selling Champion products?

My husband and I sell manufactured homes in Northern Nevada and we see this all too often with companies we have worked for; inexperienced and/or uninterested dealers and sales associates. Many of the sales people we have worked with have almost zero product knowledge, and most wouldn't know how to develop and coordinate an entire project if their lives depended on it.
For that reason, we have written a buyers guide regarding not only purchasing a manufactured home, in addition the guide includes what to expect regarding the start-to-finish development of an entire land/home package project.
While we have been the top selling sales associates at the companies we have worked for, we ended up leaving these companies because of the often shady sales tactics and tying our hands under the threat of being fired if we helped our homebuyer's too much (even if it was on our own time!).
Anyway, keep up the good work with this blog because people need to know about these issues if they are planning on buying a manufactured or modular home, or have already purchased and are having problems now.

I've been talking to a dealer/contractor in South Louisiana in regards to a modular home. I found out that they only deal with Champion products. I was told they have over 20 years of experience in both stick-built and modular home construction and have found that the Champion homes are built really well. I have researched the modular industry for about 4 months, but can't find anywhere that I can check on who has the best products. Anyone that can help in that matter would be appreciated. Also, where can I go to check on the dealer/contractor? Also, has anyone heard anything good or bad about Heartland Systems? They are a manufacturer/builder of modular homes out of Georgia.

In my opinion, it would be nice if someone had warned us against Genesis Homes and Champion Homes. It is a nightmare! We are starting a class action suit for those that bought from the Chandler, AZ site and were sold to California. We are a Cedar Fire rebuild from 2003.
