There are definitely some comments that need to be posted so that people interested in buying a Champion modular home know what to expect if they buy from Champion Genesis.

The following comment from L J, falls into that category:

"In my opinion, it would be nice if someone had warned us against Genesis Homes and Champion Homes.  It is a nightmare!  We are starting a class action suit for those that bought from the Chandler, AZ site and were sold to California.  We are a Cedar Fire rebuild from 2003."

L J, has posted comments earlier and for prospective Champion buyers they are well worth the time it takes to read them.  Unfortunately, L J's comments are not dissimilar for other Champion home buyers!

All to often, people looking at modular homes get caught up in the hype of the Champion corporate literature and sales speak.  Taking all they are told at face value, only to find out later that they are now part of the unhappy and disappointed family of Champion buyers, still waiting for all those promises to be kept.

With the downturn in the real estate market and orders for Champion modular homes dropping, can there be any doubt that Champion will continue their ways and in fact try to find new ways to save money at the expense of the customer.  Although it is hard to imagine how they could since they already do not perform on their promises to customers and fail miserably in the area of customer service.

One might conclude in a slow market, Champion would spend time improving the quality of construction in the plant, but a more likely scenario would be that they speed up the line and build the product even faster at the expense of quality.

Please let me know more. I thought I was buying a Genesis home and ended up with a Redman. Has anyone had the same situation?? I understand this was done by the dealer however, the manufacturer has been involved with all of the numerous repairs and issues regarding the Redman vs Genesis debate but has not stepped in to clarify.

You will not believe the extent to which we have had problems. I would like to post the PDF documents for all to see. I do web development for a living and am seriously considering building a website to showcase this work. Anyone interested in posting their problems just let me know. I am currently at $13,000 worth of repairs that have been submitted to warranty.

        Travis,

If you want, you can send your pdf docs to this blog and I would be happy to post them.

Dealing with Champion Genesis is no doubt a real pain and people should be made aware of what to expect.

My husand and I purchased our triplewide from Champion in 2000. A few years ago, we discovered our first water leak under the kitchen floor. In the past couple of months, our hall bathroom floor is falling in (can't use this room). We have about 8 leaks that were under the house. Of course, the water pipe company, Rehau, denies that the cracked fittings are from their company. No one wants to take the blame for this. This is NOT a coincidence. They (mobile home dealer/water company) told us to file this on our homeowners' insurance. Adjuster came out and looked just to tell us that this was NOT covered in our policy. My husband has just had major back surgery and will be out of work for 6 weeks with no pay. We cannot afford to fix this on our income. Anyone have any suggestions?

We bought our home in 2006 and have had nothing but problems ever since. Now, we are faced with a leak in the guest bath that is due to the faucet not being caulked around. This has apparently been going on for the past 3 years or so, because the damage has spread over to the bedroom, exterior wall, sub floor and created mold and water damage. The homeowners policy will not cover this, and since Champion has now filed Chapter 11, where does that leave us?? Don't have the money to fix this estimated $8,000.00 worth of damage in this economy we are in. My daughter is allergic to black mold, and this has created a health issue for her. We have had to move her out of her bedroom and into the living room. Please help. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You might consider sending a letter to Champion Enterprises advising them of your situation.  The people running Champion now will more than likely continue to do what they have done in the past, which as you know, is absolutely nothing.  That said, perhaps the buyers coming out of banruptcy, unlike current management, will step up, do the right thing and handle customer service the way it should be done.
There is no harm in letting them know how your situation is effecting you and your family.  Champion Enterprises has been notorious for water leaks and poor customer service.  Perhaps the new owners will do things differently.  Good luck

            Jake,

Not much else to say about Champion Enterprises.  The track record speaks for itself.

As a marketing company, they would have to rank among the best.  As for product quality and follow up with regard to repairs, the record is dismal.

Now the next new marketing campaign is to jump on going green with the “GoHouse” from Genesis.  Great marketers…no substance.

There are several good modular home builders, Genesis is, in my opinion, not one of them.  Take a close look at the pictures on the blog, building with quality, is not their strong suit.

I know many, as well as myself have spent thousands, tens of thousands of dollars correcting their mistakes.  Given that sales have dwindled and Champion entered bankruptcy, it not hard to imagine that cost cutting and plant closings have continued to take a toll on the quality of the product, which was already questionable.

Just my humble opinion, however I would not do business with any Champion Enterprises entity ever again.

        Jake,
I only know what I have read, no first hand knowledge.  I would suggest you visit the factory to see first hand how the homes are built.  While there, ask for a list of recent buyers, going back 2-3 years that you would be able to contact. Follow up with as many as you can, that way you will be able to make a qualified judgment about the product.
Remember, follow up after the delivery and setup is every bit as important as the initial purchase, maybe more so. Don't be afraid to ask the questions, ask too many... not too few.

I've been out of the loop for some time as I battle some health isssues. I'm sorry I haven't been readily available to continue this fight, but I'm here now to do just that. I had written to the FTC because we didn't fall into any catagory. They thought our houses were inspected by our state and/or our city governments. They have no power to monitor inspections, nor, in reality, do our local/city governments without a change to the laws. They can tell us what they'll do, but without proof in writing it isn't smart to leave it up to the word of one man in one city. The FTC didn't know the houses were not inspected, except if you consider inspections by a company paid to do so by the builder sufficient, so we didn't fall into any jurisdiction to support us and to prevent this from ever happening to another sad soul that buys one of their homes. The national level seems to be my niche, and I'm asking everyone to contact their local state/city governments to insure these houses are inspected as any other house would be. This is how Champion Genesis Redman Homes bypasses regulations and how they end up being sold in the first place to unsuspecting, trusting people like us. Let's get to our local/state governments and I'll keep pounding the national level until I hear that someone will help us. We can meet back here with results at the end of April 2010 to combine resources. Does this sound like something we can all get behind? In pieces, it can be done. To take this corporation on one at a time isn't possible. Many hands do make light work. Thank you, Mike, for taking so much of your time to put this information out there.

We bought a 79 Champion mobile home in 80 and had a lot of trouble with leaks. We have always put snow or other roof sealers on the roof, but it still leaked. One year I noticed that the wall were put up along side the roof, so the roof does not hang over the side at all.
Until this last year when one of the bedroom ceiling collaped did we find out the mobiles roof was not done to code.
Recently I sent a letter to Champion Enterprises Inc. but it was returned. Please reply to this

I am a disable person on a very very low income. I am trying to find out if there is still a law suit going on against Champion or if anyone has any good ideas.
