Champion Genesis, aka Champion Enterprises recently filed a complaint with Google adwords alleging that the use of the words "champion, champion genesis and genesis" violated their copyright.
Despite the fact that Champion Enterprises does not have a copyright or trademark right on the words "champion or genesis," Google caved in and stopped the adwords campaign to inform potential buyers of the Champion Genesis NIGHTMARE. Hence, the temporary disappearance of the www.ChampionGenesisModularHomes.com blog adwords listing.
I say temporary because as this is being posted, work is proceeding on a new website that will rank high enough to appear on the first page when anyone "googles" champion modular homes or similar terms.
The new site is www.championmodularhomenightmare.com. You will be able to reach the new site through either name. The new website, while incorporating the current blog, video and quite possibly a forum, allows for more accurate descriptions about what to expect when dealing with Champion, Champion Genesis, Champion whatever...and seems appropriate.
The intent, as it has been from the beginning, is to keep people informed and allow them to compare and contrast myth from reality, aka, sales speak and BS from the actual delivered product. To date, more than 35,000 people have clicked on the site.
It is rather depressing to think that a company like Champion Genesis Modular Homes has to stoop so low as to use a not surprisingly false tactic to prevent potential customers from gathering all the facts before making what is for many the single biggest investment of their life! Wouldn't it be easier to just build a quality product and provide customer service?
Lastly, while I understand Google's position, i.e. it is easier to give in to large corporations, even when it is not justified, than it is to resist, it is indeed a shame that free speech is so easily blocked! We listened to Eric Schmidt speak at our Son's graduation ceremony at Berkeley a couple of years ago. I wonder what Schmidt, Larry Page and Sergey Brin think about the path that Google is on? Current actions don't seem to align with the words of the speech.
